OUR COMPANION
Hendrik, also known as “The Bread Code,” is a YouTube influencer and computer scientist who launched The Sourdough Framework as an open-source project. His profound knowledge of sourdough and his meticulous, science-based approach to baking is absolutely unique, making this project stand out in the culinary world. The book began as a free digital resource and remains available online, inviting the community not only to use it but to actively contribute. Enthusiasts from all over the world co-wrote and refined the content alongside Hendrik, creating a living, evolving guide to mastering sourdough bread.
OUR MISSION
The goal was to transform this one-of-a-kind, open-source project into a beautifully designed, printed edition while staying true to its community-driven roots. By working closely with Hendrik, we aimed to capture the precision of his science-based baking method and the warmth of sourdough’s artisanal tradition. Our design employed modern, playful aesthetics, featuring graphs, tables, and flowcharts to make the book as informative as it is visually engaging. We also introduced “Bready” and “Doughy,” two friendly characters that added a lighthearted touch to the otherwise technical content.
This project was not just supported by the community—it was truly shaped by it. The book was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter in just one day, driven by the same group of people who helped write and refine it. Receiving Kickstarter’s “Projects We Love” badge was a reflection of the creativity, passion, and collaboration that define The Sourdough Framework, a project that celebrates the perfect fusion of science, community, and culinary art.
